As we finish our first full week of school, Officer Stucky would like to share an important reminder regarding traffic safety around Poplar Hill Elementary.
During morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, the yellow flashing School Zone lights are activated. When these lights are flashing, the posted speed limit is 20 MPH. This limit is not optional or flexible.
Throughout the first week of school, several traffic stops were made for speeding and cell phone use. Warnings were issued during this first week. Beginning next week, school-zone traffic laws will be fully enforced, and citations will be issued for violations.
Please be aware that the fine and court costs for a speeding violation in a school zone are approximately $346. Additionally, traveling 15 MPH or more over the posted school-zone speed limit may constitute reckless driving and can be an arrestable offense.
We understand that mornings and afternoons are busy. Families are heading to work, appointments, practices, and other commitments. However, no schedule is more important than the safety of our students, staff, families, and community members. Please slow down, put your phone away, remain alert, and follow all posted traffic laws while traveling through our school zone.
Our goal is not to issue citations. Our goal is to keep everyone entering and leaving Poplar Hill Elementary safe. Your cooperation makes a tremendous difference.

I hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer! We are so excited to welcome everyone back as we begin Year Two at Poplar Hill Elementary. We have missed our students and cannot wait to see everyone back on campus.
This Friday, August 7, is Registration Day for all 1st through 5th grade students. Our doors will open at 7:15 a.m. and registration will conclude promptly at 9:30 a.m.
When you arrive, please enter through the main entrance of the school. All visitors will pass through our weapons detection system before entering the building, so please plan accordingly and avoid bringing any items that may need to be returned to your vehicle.
After entering the building, if you need a car rider tag or need to update your child's transportation information, please stop by the Transportation Table first. This is the most important step in the registration process, as it ensures we know exactly how your child will be getting home on the first day of school and in the event of an emergency early dismissal.
Once your transportation information is complete, please make your way to your child's classroom to meet their teacher, drop off school supplies, complete any remaining paperwork, and receive important classroom information. Our teachers are excited to welcome you and your child, but please remember that Registration Day is intended to be a meet-and-greet rather than a parent conference. Teachers will share detailed classroom expectations, procedures, and curriculum information during Parent Orientation on Thursday, August 13.
Before leaving the building, please make sure you have completed the Rutherford County Schools Parent Code of Conduct if you have not already done so. This form is required for parents and guardians who wish to volunteer, attend school events, or have lunch with their child during the school year.
Please note that buses will run on Friday, but Registration Day is designed for parents and students to attend together. This is an important opportunity to meet your child's teacher, complete any remaining paperwork, and ensure we have accurate information before the first day of school.
Students who arrive by bus without a parent will remain in the gymnasium for the majority of Registration Day. They will briefly visit their classroom to meet their teacher, receive any important information, and then return to the gym until dismissal. Because of this, we strongly encourage families to attend together if at all possible.
Kindergarten families should have already received, or will receive, a phone call from their child's teacher. During that call, your teacher will introduce themselves, answer any questions, and let you know your child's assigned phase-in day. We also look forward to seeing all Kindergarten families at our Kindergarten Parent Meeting on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
As we begin our second year together, I want to thank each of you for trusting us with your children. We are committed to making this our best year yet and look forward to partnering with you to help every child grow, achieve, and thrive.

Exciting Music News at PHE!
With the addition of a second music teacher at PHE, we are excited to offer even more diverse and meaningful musical experiences for our students this year!
During each eight-day Related Arts rotation, every student will now attend two music classes:
- Music Performance – Led by Mrs. Garrett, this class will focus on singing, performing, movement, and preparing students for exciting grade-level performances throughout the year.
- Music Fundamentals – Led by Ms. Alward, this class will provide students with a deeper understanding of music through the study of music history, the elements of music, and the development of music literacy, including both tonal and rhythm skills.
In addition to our daily music classes, students will have several exciting opportunities to get involved outside the school day:
- Choir will be offered in both the fall and spring semesters.
- Our school musical will take place over several months of the school year and will premiere in March.
- 5th Grade Guitar Club will return this year as a morning enrichment opportunity for interested fifth-grade students.
- A Percussion Ensemble will also be offered one morning each week during the school year.
As we get closer to these ensembles and activities beginning, we will send home additional information about registration, schedules, and participation.
We are thrilled to begin this exciting new chapter for the Poplar Hill Elementary music program. With expanded opportunities for every student, we look forward to watching our program continue to grow and helping our learners discover, create, and share the joy of music for years to come!

Today was all about preparing for an amazing year at PHE!
We welcomed our new-to-PHE teachers for a day of learning, connecting, and building strong foundations for the year ahead. We spent the morning getting to know PHE, our expectations, our people, and most importantly, the mission and shared purpose that guide everything we do.
This afternoon, we shifted our focus to strong classroom management and the procedures and routines that create safe, predictable learning environments where every student can thrive.
We are so excited to welcome these educators to the PHE family and can’t wait to see the impact they’ll make this year!

We are excited as we prepare for Year Two at PHE and welcome our new neighbors at Poplar Hill Middle School! With the middle school opening, some traffic adjustments will be necessary. We anticipate that the first two weeks may require a little extra patience, but we are confident that everything will quickly begin running smoothly.
To make arrival and dismissal as efficient as possible for both campuses, PHE will have a new traffic pattern this year. Please carefully review the attached maps and become familiar with the new flow.
The biggest change is that the entrance for morning car rider drop-off and afternoon car rider pickup will now be the second entrance to PHE from Baker Road.
Second entrance: Morning car riders, afternoon car riders, and special education transportation pickup and drop-off
First entrance: Buses, PreK transportation, and afternoon green car riders
Afternoon green car riders: All PreK and kindergarten students, along with their siblings, are considered green car riders and will use the first entrance from Baker Road.
Kindergarten assistance: We will continue offering drop-off at the main entrance from 7:15–7:30 a.m. for kindergarten students who need a little extra assistance. These families should also use the first entrance from Baker Road.
As a reminder:
